J-P Conte Explains What Patient Capital Means

J-P Conte defined patient capital in a single pair of sentences. They appeared in an Oct. 8, 2026, column for Forbes Business Council about running a family office.

“Patient capital isn’t passive capital,” Conte wrote. “It’s the decision to give a great company the time it needs rather than the time that’s convenient.”

A Column on Family Offices

Conte is the founder and managing partner of his family office, Lupine Crest Capital, and has spent more than 30 years in private equity. The column was published under the headline “How To Use A Family Office To Drive Meaningful Growth.”

One of its sections is titled “Experience And Patience.” He has contributed to Forbes Business Council since 2025, on subjects from mentorship to wildfire preparedness and the value of outdoor adventure.

Holding and Moving

Timing is the main subject of J-P Conte’s third takeaway for business leaders, “Understand what patience actually means.”

“Knowing when to hold is as important as knowing when to move,” he wrote.

Experience and patience share a heading earlier in the piece.

A Figure He Cited

Citi Wealth’s 2025 Global Family Office Report was cited in the column. It found that 70% of respondents had made direct investments in private companies.

Citi surveyed 346 family offices around the world for that report. Of the offices making direct investments, four in 10 had increased that activity over the prior year.

Conte’s own family office, based in Aspen, Colorado, follows healthcare, software, financial services and industrial technology. It was launched in March 2025, about 18 months before the column ran.

Thinking in Generations

Jean-Pierre Conte has spoken about time in interviews as well. “We have the freedom to take a longer view, to be patient,” he told Authority Magazine in July 2026.

He traced the habit to his parents. “My parents didn’t think in quarters,” he said. “They thought in generations.”

His outdoor pursuits have been written about in similar terms. A March 2026 Forbes column on adventure argued that risk tolerance is built through practice, and he has described taking up sailing and surfing after decades in finance.

Where It Started

His parents came to the United States without money. After serving in the U.S. military, his father made a living as a tailor and clothing salesman in Manhattan. Conte wrote that they had “conviction about what was possible and about the value of building something that lasts.”

The family office was described in the column as an extension of that idea. JP Conte founded Lupine Crest Capital in March 2025.
